Dental x-rays provide valuable information about your teeth cannot be seen by the naked eye. The digital x-ray, or digital radiography, is the latest technology for taking dental x-rays. Digital x-rays use an electronic sensor (instead of x-ray film) to capture and store digital images of your teeth on a computer. This image can be viewed and enlarged at the press of a button, helping Dr. Musselman and staff members detect oral health issues more easily.
Identifying and treating dental problems at an early stage can save you time, money, and unnecessary discomfort — not to mention saving your teeth. Digital x-rays also have the benefit of reducing your radiation exposure 80-90% versus traditional dental x-rays.

How often should x-rays be taken?
It’s always recommended that new patients undergo a full series of oral x-rays. After that, your personal health history and needs will help Dr. Musselman determine how often you need dental x-rays taken. Bitewing x-rays, which show the top and bottom teeth biting together, are recommended once or twice a year at checkups to detect potential dental problems.
